Electric fireplace with a real 3D flame or just a fake one: just a 2D flame instead?

Some electric fireplace manufacturers claim their fire to be 3D flame but in fact they just offer 2D flame. A real 3D flame should have two logs for the fireplace: a front log and a back one that is reflected in the mirror. The flame should flicker from between the two logs. 2D flame only shows one log and nothing behind the flame.

To achieve two log vision, most people are building a flame mirror behind the front log. The mirror will reflect the front log and “ create” another log in the fireplace. Consequently the flame will look true to life as the flame will “ dance” between the logs. However it is very difficult to keep a clean image of the front log in the mirror as LED lighting is very intensive at the back of the flame board in the electric fireplace and the lighting will smear the image of the mirror so the flame is not clean and clear.

This is a big paradox for the manufacturers of electric fireplace.
